Our Distinctive Voyage Excursion - George Inlet Lodge, Delicacies & Totems
Venture to one of the oldest canneries in Ketchikan, Alaska. The George Inlet Cannery is full of rich history from the original canning and fishing days. The Cannery operated from 1913 until 1958, when salmon was in abundance and in high demand. Explore the little cove where the Cannery still sits today; walk along the rainforest trail, and tour the various buildings. A true Alaska experience wouldn't be complete without a tasting of some of the most popular delicacies. You will try smoked salmon dip with crackers, smoked salmon chowder *Wild mushroom bisque for vegetarians* served with sourdough bread. Tastings include wild game meats and smoked cheeses, kelp salsa and chips, kelp marinara and pasta and ice cream with Alaskan berry sauce, of course. Quench your thirst with a glass of beer or wine. All of our beverages come from 49th State Brewery. We have 8 craft beers on tap and 3 craft sodas. Savor the flavors of Ketchikan as you are surrounded by pristine sightseeing and breathtaking waterfalls. On your drive, you will get the chance to learn about history, culture, and modern-day Ketchikan. Your driver guide will point out significant landmarks throughout the Downtown area and share with you the folklore and stories of the different industries in the “Salmon Capital of the World”. Enjoy the scenic drive along the coast looking for wildlife and a brief photo stop in Saxman Native Village, where Tlingit Native Alaskans settled long ago.
